An excellent book, with great stories about George Washington I had never heard. It shows him as who he was, not as an unrealistic perfect founding father but as a real person with weakness and strength. You feel a real sense hof is upbringing and core governing values that shaped him. My only complaint about the book was that was hard keeping dates and locations straight. Setting that aside, the most significant thing I learned was how much George Washington relied on God, and how many times God saved his life. He truly had Divine Providence on his side.
It was this point – Divine Providence where I began to connect with George Washington. I have felt, like George, the help from the Invisible Hand and at multiple times in my life I was spared an early death. The book lays out the rest of his life and his choices and it is easy to see God had a Plan for him, if he chose to follow it. I hope to be like George Washington, make the choices necessary to follow God and His plan for me.
You need to get a copy of this book here, read it, and learn by the example of an ordinary man choosing to stand on his governing values. As Glenn says – we need to “be George Washington”, we need to take his attributes upon us, and standup as an influence whereever we are in life. It is time we understand, take a stand, and stand up for what we believe in.
